Earn $ 73.000/mo

Age: 49

Highest Education: "I left school at 17. I had a bunch of jobs on construction sites and then joined the Royal Australian Navy when I was 18. During my six years in the Navy, I was trained and qualified as an electronics technician."

Year Started Business: "I’ve been in business most of my life. My current business is based on the Internet and was started in 1995. I was in a partnership for a few years and then went solo in December 2001. I’ve never looked back and highly recommend it."

Type Of Business: "Internet Marketing is the name of the game. I own a number of sites that provide services and information. Apache Ads (www.ApacheAds.com)provides e-mail advertising. The Lead Mine (www.TheLeadMine.com) is a membership site that provides business leads and a killer pay plan. We also have a free site that condenses down the secrets to making money on the Internet into four simple bite-sized steps, it's at www.MakeMoneyAtHomeGold.com."

Market: Enthusiastic, teachable people interested in operating an Internet business and then willing to pass on the skill to others.

Number Of Employees: None

Best Month (Gross Revenues): $73,000

Hours Per Week During Start-Up: When he first started, he was in debt and running on adrenalin, so he worked long hours, starting at 5 a.m. and finishing around 11 p.m., 7 days a week.

Hours Per Week Now: "I still probably work around 60 to 80 hours a week, mostly because I love it. Working from home still gives me much more freedom than any job. My partner (Mary) and I choose when we go to the movies and when we go on holidays. We get to choose everything we do. Freedom is having choices.

Favorite Business Magazines: Fortune and Forbes

Favorite Business Books Or Authors: The Amazing Formula by Marlon Sanders. "This book really gets to the nuts and bolts of understanding and building an Internet business in a measurable way."

Relaxes By: "I particularly like to watch movies and read trashy novels. We also like to go for walks with our dog and watch the world go by while enjoying a good coffee."

Least Favorite Part Of Your Job: Dealing with accountants, banks, or anything to do with paperwork or rules and regulations

Companies Admired: "I really am more inclined to admire individual effort. Guys like Chris Tinney and Frank Kern impress me–Chris for his amazing ability to make everyone feel important and Frank for his unbeatable and often copied writing skills. One company I do admire is Levi Strauss for taking kids out of sweatshops and paying them to go to school."

Favorite Quotes: If it is to be, its up to me. –unknown

The Person Who Most Influenced His Life: "My father–he worked all his life, mostly doing things he didn’t like to keep a roof over our heads. I didn’t want to have to do that. He’s always been very supportive and encouraging even when I had failures, he always believed in me."

Heroes: Bill Gates, not for being the richest man on earth, but for using a great deal of that wealth to improve the health of millions of people in Africa

Special Accomplishments: "I was named 'Top Rising Star' of the year for 2002 by Life Force International. I sponsored more people than anyone else worldwide and achieved the Diamond level in the record time of four months."

Favorite Part Of Your Job: Getting e-mails from happy associates–"It’s a great feeling to hear when you have made a positive difference in someone’s life."

Months Before Achieving A Profit: "It took 5 months to show a profit. This is due to continually reinvesting the vast majority of my income back into the business."

Any Books/Tapes/Reports Authored: "I have a book, which is a work in progress."

GETTING STARTED TIPS:

I'm starting a home business next month. I have a maximum of $3,000 in start-up capital. Where should I invest it?
DR: Build the biggest e-mailing list you can, and also invest in buying some e-books that can educate you.

I've just started a home business. My spouse has given me six months to make it work. Any advice?
DR: Firstly, if your spouse is setting these sorts of parameters, it's going to put a lot of pressure on you. You should encourage your spouse to look for the benefits of having a home business and to be more involved and supportive.

They say it takes money to make money. Should I try to get a small business loan for my startup capital or just try to get by with my own limited finances?
DR: It certainly does take money to make money. When I started, I used my credit card to buy the things I needed to build a business, and as income came in I paid off my card.
