Writing Your Own Ads

Researched & Written by Karen Barnes from IAHBE

Q: What should I know about writing my own ads?

A: You will need to know these three key components in writing your own ads.

The Headline

The Body

The Call to Action

Q: Why just these three components for an ad?

A: Each of these three things has a purpose for each area that you are going to use.

The headline’s purpose is to sell the ad, meaning that you will need a great eye catching headline that will make the reader click on the link to go on to read your ad body.

The ad body’s purpose is to set up the call to action, meaning that you will need to write your ad body to keep your reader interested.

The call to action’s purpose is to sell the click, meaning that once you have your ad body set up this will then entice the viewer to click on your link.

Q: Could you explain in more detail what you mean with the purposes of each component?

A: Headline: You will want to have your headline grab your reader’s attention. Just remember to be truthful with your headline, as you will not want to ruin your integrity in the long run. You also won’t want to disappoint your readers when they make it to your Website.

Using the right action in your headline will also create an action to read your ad body.

Use action words to start your headline.

Create curiosity for your reader.

Ask the reader a question.

Make your reader want to continue on reading your ad with your headline. By making your reader take action with your headline, this will ensure a better success rate in your views to your ad, better sales of your products, or even greater amounts of referrals to your business.

Make sure that you create two to five different headlines for your ad to start with. By doing this you will then be set to start on the final phase of your ad. NOTE: The final phase is the last step I mention in this article.

Just remember that your readers want to know what’s in it for them. This leads me to the ad body or the call to action that I mentioned above.

Ad Body: Tell your reader what’s in it for them. Let them know what they would benefit so they will click on to reach what you are wanting to sell or refer them to.

Let them know what your offer will do for them, how it can help them, etc.

By listing a feature and then writing the benefits of the particular feature, your reader will know what you are offering can do for them, not just what it can do in general.

Call to Action: You will need to create an urgency for them to keep going with you until you get them to take the desired action. Let the reader know what they should expect once they decide to take action. For example, if you are using an autoresponder to educate your readers about a particular subject, let them know how many emails to expect or something along these lines so they will know what they are getting from you.

Proofread your headline and ad copy for any errors. Spelling mistakes can be a big deal-breaker for some of your potential clients. Make sure that you haven’t written a novel on what your product or service can do for them. You will want to make sure that your ad is like a 30-second infomercial. Most people have short attention spans.

Last but not least, you must TEST, TEST, TEST!!!!!!

Testing your ads is the last major step that you will need to do. Testing your ads will allow you to spend a smaller amount of money now in order to earn more money later. Once you have an ad that is pulling in the kinds of results that you like, make sure to put that ad every where. Then you will start seeing the kinds of profits that you desire.

Now that you know how to write your ad, how to get results with it, never stop advertising. Once you have taken massive action yourself, you will gain massive results.
